Unwinding Beyond the Marvels of Nature

What an uplifting feeling it is to walk by the side of the sea and trailing down its beauty as you calm your mind from the piles of work that blew you up these past few weeks. Certainly, giving service isn’t boring yet. It will never be. But in the form of unwinding ourselves beyond the marvels of nature, the organizers of the recently concluded Peñafrancia Festival’s “Kusina ni Ina” project just found a creative way to redeem ourselves from the pressure brought by both academic and organizational concerns.

What awaits us as we sailed with a boat, with the rhythm of the waves that made us feel welcome on the way to Suminabang Beach in Pasacao, is something great, something worthy to look for since majority of us doesn’t know what lies beyond the horizon. We just let fate to take its part and to make everything happen on that day. But yes, it has been something more for as we took our first step on that place, the downpour of bliss begins, and so as our journey in there.

Blue skies above with scattered fragments of light intensified our feeling of contentment with the place that we had been. Kuya Philip Imperial and his wife, Ate Badet, had been to thoughtful as they toured us on the whole place, more likely telling us where we can detect a mobile signal that raised laughter on the team because it lies on the spot where the ‘Balete’ tree was. But things diverted on when the call of our stomach sneaked in the scene in the form of a grumble. That’s when the “lamon” portion entered our adventure and filled our stomach, making us ready for the most highlighted activity, the swimming.

But things were not just about swimming, for the beauty of Suminabang must not be alone acquainted with conversing with the sea and enjoying the scenes with the splashes of water, it is also known for its cave. Wherein us, were greatly mesmerized seeing the formation of stalagmites and stalactites, and beautifully struggled with its narrowed path in which we are obliged to bend down in order to get through. Also, sightseeing of fishes was enjoyed by us because of the crystal clear water in there. Hence, there was even a point when we had a photoshoot and imagine ourselves as mermaids and mermen trap in an island.

That day of adventure was not in any knowledge us when we, the volunteers signed-up to help in the Kusina ni Ina. We didn't imagine that the efforts of time and labor will be rewarded by a grand rest and recreation. Indeed, good deeds were really being rewarded. But what really struck us on that time and until now are not just the place alone and the pleasure of having a rest and recreation, it is the time that we spent together with our co-volunteers. What we did out there is a memory that will forever remain within us.
